I am trying to check if there is a middle man between the machine andme. I am using the technique mentioned in getting started guide andhere http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/AWSEC2/2008-02-01/DeveloperGuide/index.html?CLTRG-get-console-output.html
but I am not seeing any SSH key fingerprints in the output.
Can someone please explain what I might be doing wrong?

Please use a more recent version of the Ubuntu AMI as they now include the ssh key fingerprints in the console output.

I just found that now that EBS is there to save me a lot of hassle (I was using s3backer to get fuse-mounted loopfiles, *then* mount that as a filesystem...)

We now have proper blockdevices, optionally S3-backed... Great

So the first thing I do is

sudo apt-get install lvm2
pvcreate /dev/sdh
vgcreate thisisgreat /dev/sdh
lvcreate thisisgreat -L1G -n thisisnt

It all breaks down when the logical volume mapper tries to access the dm (device-mapper) kernel modules. They aren't there.

Any chance I can get those in easily/can you point me at how to achieve that

(I'm not aware how AMI/AKIs relate and if modifying a kernel is required/difficult at all on EC2)

Thanks in advance,
Seth

mmm seems one out of the following has fixed this without my even doing a modprobe...

105 sudo apt-get install dmraid dmsetup
108 sudo apt-get install dmapi
109 sudo apt-get install dmapi-dev

I'm guessing dmapi (because dmraid is not exactly what I'm using, dmsetup was already installed (need to check) and -dev usually just indicates stuff for compiling (which I didn't)

YMMV i'm going to pinpoint this myself
